I wrote the post about my younger son, Ass Burger Boy,and his rebellion by way of joining a nutbar church that was so entrenched in its beliefs that there was no room for discussion.

That was yesterday (day before by the time you read this).

Today,(now yesterday) I received in the mail “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle. This was sent to me by an internet friend. Can we say synchronicity?

Bless Tolle’s heart, he wrote on page 17 pretty much what I was talking about, but in a much clearer way. After all, he got the big book deal, not me. Here is what he wrote:

What is the role of the established religions in the arising of the new consciousness? Many people are already aware of the difference between spirituality and religion. They realize that having a belief system- a set of thoughts that you regard as the absolute truth- does not make you spiritual no matter what the nature of those beliefs is. In fact, the more you make your thoughts (beliefs) into your identity, the more cut off you are from the spiritual dimension within yourself. Many “religious” people are stuck at that level. They equate truth with thought, and as they are completely identified with thought (their mind), they claim to be in sole possession of the truth in an unconscious attempt to protect their identity. They don’t realize the limitations of thought. Unless you believe (think) exactly as they do, you are wrong in their eyes, and in the not-too-distant past, they would have felt justified in killing you for that. And some still do, even now.

The new spirituality, the transformation of consciousness, is arising to a large extent outside of the structures of the existing institutionalized religions. There were always pockets of spirituality even in mind-dominated religions, although the intstitutionalized hierarchies felt threated by them, and often tried to suppress them.

I must be ahead of my time. I have been saying this for years. In fact, I tried to discuss this politicization of the church with Ass Burger Boy , especially about the changes that were made to the bible by the Byzantine Emperor Constantin at the Council of Nicea circa 325 AD. I believed then, and do now, that this is where the admonishment against soothsayers and the like originated. In a political structure (and give it some thought if you don’t think the church is a political structure), the aim is to amass wealth and keep the goodies in the hands of the elite. The great unwashed were not to have access to the mysteries, because the idea was to depend upon the church elite for that.

Stepping off my soapbox, I invite you to express your own opinions.

I definitely see a lot of contradictions and hypocrisy at church. I took several years off church, so now these things are even more obvious. If I read the Bible, I understand it differently than I did when I was younger and was told what it meant.

I see a lot of pride -a LOT of pride- in a church that preaches humility. And I see a lot of glossing-over of things that weren’t meant to be pretty, and constant re-interpretations to suit current secular trends.

The Bible warns against the false church and the false prophet… and those are far easier to find than the genuine article.

This is why I stay away from religion. I can honestly say that I have no interest in others telling me what to believe. I’ve seen way too much on my own.

The Council of Nicea. Don’t get me started. Not only did they put words in Big J’s mouth, to support their notion of what should and should not be, they made Mary Magdeline a whore. I hope they’re nice and toasty.

Without getting into the whole, ‘no proof that jesus even ever existed’ thing the New testament was written by many different people who never new Jesus which is why its contradicts itself so much, also a lot of chapters were not added, it seems they didn’t make the short list for the bible competition.
If you compare the original bible which is full of war, sex and rock ‘n’ roll to the new testament and believe them both to be fact yer not only screwed but pretty dumb too, like those who are believing my news blog to be the ‘gospel truth.’
A God of ethnic cleansing that turns into a god of love (unless yer his own son) yeah let me make friends with the wife beater that found god in prison.
The bible is all based on outdated Arab/jewish ways that doesn’t have any place for weemen as equals which astounds me when weemen get into the church and accept a role as second class citizens only allowed to make the tea for their elder husbands when they have people over.

Anywhoo its the literal thinkers who take the conflicting words as rules who cause the most trouble as the spiritual ones are usually a bit more open that is true .

Jesus got it right in an idealistic way, I mean turning the other cheek and giving up yer cloak is just silly, here ride my wife and fill out this surrey later.
As you can see the Catholic church didn’t turn the other cheek when I made jokes about pedos priests so how can you expect the people to follow the rules when they don’t?

I’m just saying some of the things you and Marie have already said with stuff of my own.

Who is the war of terror against? invading liberators against terrorists? or Christians and Muslims? one mans terrorist is another mans fairly elected government (Hamas) everything is a matter of perspective and the winner re-writes history and writes the future rules.

Lets take a moment to remember the 30 odd people (including children) who are holed up in a Russian cave right now waiting for the end of the world, the leader somehow forgot to go.
People who join cults and end up drinking the apple juice have just won the Darwin award, there are too many people anyway so I don’t mind weeding out the idiots too much before you know it they run for president and more morons vote for them (see the Kennedys)

Its different when yer own family gets involved because you expect better for them and don’t want to see them hurt.

What I want to know is why is it called commonsense when its in such short supply in the world? when religion is used to justify anything then it becomes moronsense.

Amen

I think most folks have “The CHurch” of 800AD and prior confused with “churches” today.
When you make a comment like this:
“The great unwashed were not to have access to the mysteries, because the idea was to depend upon the church elite for that.”
… I hope you realize you are referring to the Catholic CHurch and her predicessors and/or spin-offs.
Today’s “churches” are mostly independent of that dark hypocrisy and are more free-thinking. Even Catholics of today call themselves “Christians” in an effort to appear more tolerant and mainstream.
Just because one believes and accepts the Bible does not mean his knuckles drag the ground.
Also, Knudsen, please tell me where the “original Bible” is located as I would like to do the comparison that you have done. :rolleyes
I’m going to subscribe here and join in with you folks more often it that’s ok.

Al: That is what I was referring to. I’m not fond of painting in broad strokes, but that is the nature of the institution in those days, and most aspects, until today.
They may have lost a lot of their power/money, but not too much has been changed about the hierarchy.

The original Bible as in the old testament, you see we usually refer to that as the bible and the new testament as the new testament, separate books, nothing alike, putting them together and calling them the bible is like saying the new star wars films are a part of the original 3 movies. It all came from some Arabs anyway and is all mythology I’m off to worship at the shrine of shrek.

Cults, sects the Diocese of leeds, kill them all and let god sort out his own as a peace loving Christian once said.
