I confess I have been fiddling with my header. I got some design advice from Ree and I fear I may have taken it to excess. Hardly any surprise since I’m an excessive person. What? You’re surprised? Get away with your bad self. Feel free to offer your preferences.

On the day to day real life level, Ass Burger Boy has started a new semester at community college. He described asking an instructor about a “weird” kid in his class. It seems ABB made the circling motion with his hand (typically used to describe someone who is cah-ray-zee). The instructor said the “weird” kid had Asperger’s Syndrome. ABB saw the sadness in my eyes when I said: “I would think that you would have compassion instead of labelling this kid as “other”. He got to thinking about this, and has made an effort to befriend him. School is about learning more than academics.

My batteries mutinied when I tried to take a picture of the dark stains still visibile in the flooring. The story is that the former owner of the mansion bled out there, and he was found with his dogs several days later. The neighbours told me that they researched the place extensively when they first moved in, but I couldn’t find anything, except the reference to the rope factory that the former owner supposedly ran.

I will admit that I felt “visitors” here when I first moved in, but I told them politely to buzz off.

mullioned window

The darker spot in front of the basket is the culprit. This is in the front third of the living room. On the other side of the fireplace is an identical sized wall, with matching mullioned window. This would be where I am now. It’s quite a distance from the antique television, which would explain why I have it turned up so loud. Big room.

To get an idea of the size of this room, this next image was shot from behind my desk. The disconcerting white thing in the foreground is the chair I sit in while on the computer.

from behind my desk chair

I realize I haven’t done much to decorate the place yet, but I’m frugal. The dark sofa and chair? Still in good condition. Not too sure I want to cover them. Frugal ::cough::cheap::cough:: This side of the sofa is another of those glass panelled pocket doors. The fireplace hearth has issues, but they will be addressed eventually. Or not.

For anyone who wondered if my place was always clean, just look at the box of stuff waiting to be burned, parked by the chair near the fireplace. Now there are two. It’s a lot of area to clean. I not only have to vacuum the floors, but the walls as well. I was agonizing over asking Santa for a digital SLR or a roomba, but Santa is also frugal. And overdrawn at the bank.

I hope you have enjoyed your virtual tour of casa witchypoo. It has been my pleasure being your hostess. If the dust bothers you, I’ll show you my 1973 “green machine” Electrolux. I love that vacuum cleaner, but I wish it had a roomba sibling.

Shameless self-promotion: Show me some freaking love. Go on, vote. You know you wanna. You have to register first, but you will make me very happy. Check your junk mail folder for the registration confirmation. Oh, and if it says voting is closed? It is for 2007, but this award is for 2008.

My site was nominated for Freakiest Blogger!

freakn love your tv! how quaint…..beautiful room….

Manuel’s last blog post..My nose has been elevated

witchypoo Says:

RaeJane: I think I was told, but durned if I can remember. Dead is dead.
Manuel: It is a quaint tv, but I can’t see flinging it in the landfill while it still works. Plus, it kind of fits with all the other antiques, including me. Thank you. I’m fond of the room too, although all of the panelling and my own wood things make it seem rather dark. Alas, a light-coloured sofa doesn’t allow me to put my feet up on it. That would never do.

teeni Says:

I love the room. Beautiful. Some places just have bad histories – it’s to be expected. In the house that my parents last lived in, the owners son had hung himself from a rafter in the garage. Sad. Anyway, I love getting to see more of my fellow blogger’s spaces. Very neat! And I know what you mean about the Electrolux – I love mine too – it works so fabulously – but it would be nice to not have to drag it around or move it room to room. Whew!

teeni’s last blog post..Bad Baby Names Game Results

witchypoo Says:

teeni: Heh-heh. Glad it’s not TMI. I had a few requests for non-identifying information, but I doubt anyone would even recognize the front door, because it is set back from the street, and doesn’t even face the street.

RaeJane Says:

I really like those windows too…

The whole feel of the room, it’s very interesting to me.
Is there a garden just outside those windows?

I have no idea what part of Canada you are in, but we have visited Toronto and London and loved it.
We plan on going back again soon.

The small windows.. with the itched glass..not the large bay window, although it’s gorgeous too!

the header seems fine to me but what do i know? i LOOOOVVVVVEEEE your place…dark wood…lots of light…can i move in???

Jenny Says:

Hold on while I imagine myself sitting in front of that HUGE window…sipping a good cup of coffee. MMMMMM, it feels just as good in my brain as I’m sure it does in real life.

What en eye opening experience for ABB (or not). Sometimes we don’t recognize that which is so apparent to others.

Once when a friend and I were trying to take pictures at a “haunted” castle in Scotland, the camera went berserk and started “rewinding”. Yet when we got home and developed the film, all we had was a picture with the perfect outline of a human form.

witchypoo Says:

RaeJane: The small leaded windows are showing tree s through them. There are garden spots all over the grounds, but those windows are too high up too see a garden from.
You don’t see too many of those anymore.
zoe: Sure! Bring the kids! ABB really enjoys change in his life. Well, I would enjoy it, but he doesn’t do new people really well.
Jenny: It was an eye-opening experience ABB to see the other guy like others saw him (ABB). Isn’t it cool how smart spirits are? Learning to manipulate new fangled things like cameras and electricity? Actually, electricity is one of the easier things for them to manipulate, but electronics are right up there too. I had to reboot after writing about the guy who died in the room, because my computer went all wonky on me. Hmmph. I did ask politely .

Marie Says:

It really is a gorgeous room, but I’m getting creepy vibes. I don’t think I could spend much time in there alone. LOVE the window and view.

Marie’s last blog post..I’m breaking up with Matt Damon

witchypoo Says:

Marie: There are always creepy vibes in old houses. Can’t be helped. Maybe, though, it’s me you’re sensing?
I have a story about some haunted places I lived in. Remind me to tell it soon.

Wendy Says:

I’ve never been bothered by a little dust…blood stains are a different story. Looks lovely and the view outside the window looks beautiful from what I can tell.

Wendy’s last blog post..The Working Girl

witchypoo Says:

Wendy: Well, it could really be anything, as far as you can tell by looking at it. Dust, however, makes me sneeze.
A lot. That’s why I have a no carpet rule wherever I live.
Carpets are a deal breaker. The grounds are really rather nice, and quite large for being in the city. The view out the front door is on my header. I plan to change it out to reflect the changing seasons. I don’t see the need to make a new header every month at this point. I may feel different come Valentine’s Day, St Patricks Day and Easter. Who knows?

kailani Says:

Wait, someone died there? And you can still see where it happened? You’re a very brave girl!

old Knudsen Says:

It looks like a room that needs lots of books and more light please and hey, people gotta die somewhere.

As for yer banner Oscars wilde’s last words were something like, “either those drapes go or I do.” I just love that fella.
I am fascinated to see what two ABBs talk about together.

I love the paneling and the windows. beautiful.

RaeJane Says:

I love learning about haunted places.. um obviously.. since I am a paranormal investigator and all.. ha!

Also my friends joke that whether there are ghosts or not, if I show up, they will crawl out of the woodwork to say hello… I guess it’s my perfume?!

Those lead windows just make me feel like taking a stoll in a beautiful garden.. isn’t it amazing what pictures bring up for you?

I’m glad you shared pictures from your home..

When we pulled up all the carpet in our house in one room there were alllll kinds of stains, to the point where ar closing we even asked if they had a pet because we thought the stains might be urine.. they said they had never had a pet.
They lived her 35 years, so I guess it dates to before them. Restaining the floors never got the stains up.. sooo, we just through a wool rug over it and then our bed ..no one’s the wiser :)

Wow, I am a jibber jabber today.

RaeJane’s last blog post..The end of an era

witchypoo Says:

Kailani: You can also see cat pee stains in hardwood, sometimes refinishing doesn’t make it go away. I like to think that everyone has to die, I have actually slept in two separate death beds. The dead cannot hurt you, unless you make your mind an open invitation to them, and then, you’re really just hurting yourself.
Knudsey: I sold a lot of my books when I moved to the last place I lived in. Not enough room. I still have two bookcases and ABB has the largest in his room. What? You’d rather die than look at that header? Close your eyes, dear.
As for the two ABB’s, I suspect mine will warn the other about trusting everyone, and thinking they are your friend.
RaeJane: We do have to talk. I’m fascinated by a paranormal investigator who is afraid of ghosts. It sounds like a basis for a sitcom hehe.

iamthediva Says:

so THAT’s what the inside of your home looks like!! :D

witchypoo Says:

Diva, muh darlin: I have missed you! I figured I might as well show the fortress of solitude since I ain’t showing pics of my self. It’s kind of fun to look over other blogger’s shoulders into their house, innit?

Jenny Says:

OH! Let’s have a slumber party at witchypoo’s house! We can have toffee and tell ghost stories… except the stories will be true. And we could play Oija… okay, not really. You won’t catch me playing Oija. Ever.

Jenny’s last blog post..Boiling Away The New Years Blahs

witchypoo Says:

Jenny: A slumber party! Yay! I don’t like Ouija boards either, my arms get tired. But we can play aura games, those are fun, and kind of geeky too.

witchypoo Says:

JennB: See, if you subscribed, you would be notified when my update comes out. Lately, I have been updating at 8:00 pm Atlantic time, so I can judge which posts get the best traffic accurately. I’m preparing the post now.

soccermom of 4 Says:

We have a tv that looks exactly the same. A Magnavox I think. It’s down in the basement now, and the kids use it for their video games. It doesn’t have any remote, so it’s handier to use it with the game system.

We got it when I was pregnant with our oldest kids (twins), and they will be 23 this summer. It still works fine. We did have to demagnetize it once because our VCR, which we used to have sitting up on top, made one side go dark and kind of bent the remaining picture, but, since the demagnetizing and not putting the VCR back on top, it has been great.

I also really like all the wood on the walls. You just don’t see that very much, at least around here. It is gorgeous.

witchypoo Says:

soccermom of 4: You just can’t kill those things can you? And sometimes, the only exercise I get is getting up to change the channel. Well, dusting. And vacuuming. Cooking.
Cleaning. But no remote? Not a hardship. I hate channel surfing anyway. Just look at the listings on the cable website. Thanks for dropping by. I hope you will come back soon.

old Knudsen Says:

The last time I did a Ouija board I got a woman who claimed to have known me as a child, I got her name but didn’t believe her. Spirits sometimes like to play jokes.

old Knudsen’s last blog post..Pot-head Steals Animals

witchypoo Says:

Knudsey: Spirits do sometimes like to play jokes, the stinkers. It is good to protect yourself by vibrating to the frequency of love before attempting to play with a Ouija board. But your arms will still get tired.

Boneblower Says:

I love your house. It feels like an inviting place to spend some time.

Your ABB name cracks me up. Both my sons have Aspergers & I was at a conference in Canberra a few years ago – where a man described himself as an adult with ass burgers……suffice it to say we nearly wet ourselves. My girlfriend & I had visual (they’ve trained us well) ideas of a screen printed t-shirt with butt cheeks and a meat pattie………………….I won’t go on – you get the idea :)

Boneblower: I’m glad you got it. It seems that there was an issue where the moniker shocked some people until I explained it. Thanks for coming by. I hope to see more of you.
kim: I feel like we’re visiting each other since you share what your home looks like.

josey Says:

wow, geez, im behind. LOL.

of course the house isss goorrrrjus! haha!

and if you want an opinion on the header, i remember the first time i visited your blog…the header was arranged differently. it wasnt the standard “bar” across the top…you still had the front door view (which i LURVE), and maybe you had a little chatty blurb or something under the pix…do you know which one imma talkin about? :) well anyhoo, i liked that one! LOL!

but i’ll still come visit no matter what header you have ;)

WooHoo…this post has been so popular! Apparently we enjoy being voyeurs in witchypoo’s life! I just hopes when witchypoo is all bloggy famous she won’t forget the ones who loved her first. And best.
I have to ask if the whale picture in the living room is of significance. If whales in general are significant to you, or if that’s just because you’re all maritime and whatnot. Or maybe those who are more enlightened tend to gravitate to oceanic areas…due to the sounds and vibrations?

Jenny’s last blog post..High Tea

witchypoo Says:

Jenny: You’re unforgettable! And I love all you great interactive bloggy friends. Don’t count on me being bloggy famous, I’m wondering right now what on earth I can come up with for tomorrow’s post. And drawing a blank. Time for some Skinny Bitch maybe.
The whale painting was done by a friend of mine. He traded it for a reading. Most of my art and photography is by people that I bartered with. Kind of makes it more special to me.
I do have a strong affinity for whales, do you remember the whale dream I had?
