I wanted to make me a shiny new blogroll, like Heather’s at OMSH
I went to the quintessential go-to geek guy Andy Bailey
and my heart, it did sing, with a mere line of code to insert in my sidebar. Andy wrote the fabulous WordPress plugin CommentLuv
and I have been thrilled to have the use of this brilliant plugin. It allows your commenters to leave a link to their last post, sharing the linky love.

(Unlike the grinchy Blogger/Google, which no longer allows the “Other” option, so you can link to your website outside Blogger, just by signing in. That is gone now. If you want a link with your sign-in on Blogger, you have to create a profile. Then the clever folks delete their blogger page and just list their real blog page under “Contact Me”) Whew! That was a mini-rant, but I feel so much better now.

What was I talking about?

I was so happy, I think I may have offered him my firstborn. Then I pestered Heather some more, and Andy some more, and neither has made outright death threats, although there might have been muttering somewhere. I’m hoping that Tell her to go suck an egg
wasn’t meant for me.

Andy also helped me to pretty up my categories without all that pesky, long-winded html, because, you know, php has all these built in functions.

Are your eyes bleeding from geek talk? Perhaps the fork you are sticking in them?

For those lucky WordPress bloggers (and my, I do love me some WordPress) who want to do their own, I will share the brilliant line of code that allows you to rotate your screenshot thumbnails. In your sidebar code, under this: <div id=”blogroll_headers”> Why, just pop this line of code in:

<?php wp_list_bookmarks(’title_before=<div>&title_after=</div>&show_images=1&show_description=1&orderby=rand&limit=3′); ?>

And your image blogroll links, they will rotate, showing three per page load.

If you want to be on my blogroll, just leave me a comment, and I will be happy to oblige. You should mention in the comment that you want on the blogroll.

Now, go forth and make your own! And go leave Andy some love.

Shameless self-promotion: Show me some freaking love. Go on, vote. You know you wanna. You have to register first, but you will make me very happy. Check your junk mail folder for the registration confirmation.

My site was nominated for Freakiest Blogger!

the quintessential go-to geek guy

LOL! I might use that as my blog tagline :-)

I am happy to have helped…

Andy Bailey’s last blog post..A Haiku, poem without rhyme, beautiful

witchypoo sez: If you use that tag line, you will have even more people pester you for help, but feel free.

We like us some Andy too….
So the:
title_before=-div-&title_after=-/div-
is what puts your titles under the image? It took me like an hour to figure out how to remove BLOGROLL from my header… Gahh. I love learning the ins and outs of Wordpress.

Just Beachy’s last blog post..Menu Plan Monday 12/3

witchypoo Says:

@Andy: Did I mention you rock?
@Just Beachy: The title of the page is pulled from your input on the add link form of the blogroll manager. The place where you input the URL of the site you are linking. Where it says “Name” and “Description” The tags I included were so my CSS settings would not be ignored for the appearance of the headers. I had changed the CSS headers so they were a different size than the default, and this just allowed me to keep these settings for the blogroll. You notice that I have two categories. One is for my own sites, and I applied the code Andy supplied for the rotating links. (under “My Homies”

OMSH Says:

No, that “tell her to go suck an egg” was not intended for you or any of my other readers. I find it slightly hysterical that it was legible. What a thing to show the world - I write nasty comments on napkins! WEEEEEE!!!!

Congrats on your coding ability - and freakiest blogger?! Hey, I’ll vote.

OMSH’s last blog post..…and let the people make faces!

witchypoo sez: I knew that, but couldn’t resist. Thanks for dropping by anf getting you freak on ;)

My eyes! They bleed! THE GOGGLES, THEY DO NOTHING!! Sheesh, witchyfart, was that post even in English? Oh well, my non-comprehension does not diminish my gratitude at what must have been a gut wrenching decision of yours to alter your template so that even IE worm users like myself could read. Thanks!! Now back to your…whatever the hell it is you were talking about. xoxoxox

witchyfart sez: It wasn’t entirely in English. Let’s say that there is a niche readership for this sort of thing. I’ve only done it twice because of the eyes glazing over factor, but this is helpful to WordPress bloggers. Hey, part of the name here is geek, as in psychicgeek. You gotta throw them a bone once in a while.
You’re welcome that I slaved and slaved to make this site functional for the luddites that use IEsicks ;) Bonus! If you want, I can put you on my blogroll. It’s all about sharing the love. *Narrows eyes*
Did you say “template”? Imposter!

Jenny Says:

OH MY GOD…MY EYES, MY EYES.
Wow, 5 years ago I might have understood even one little bit of that. 15,000 poopy diapers later and I seem to have lost every ounce of techy geek I had in me.

I got the purple plates! Can’t wait to give them as gifts in the next few weeks. My daughter is IN LOVE with the one I have been wearing (larger disk) on a necklace, so I can’t wait to give her her own.

Jenny’s last blog post..And Then It Hits Me

witchypoo sez: I’m so happy they got there in a timely fashion! Your daughter will appreciate having her own; it makes for a lovely gift.

Dangerspouse Says:

Incomprehension Of The Day: What the hell is a “blogroll”? Isn’t that some kind of sushi?

witchypoo sez: Yes, blogrolls are delicious and nutritious, with no calories.
